    On May 6, the Canmore Museum hosted a special Stories of Canmore Book Club to discuss the powerful memoir Open Heart ,Open Mind with the author and six-time Olympic medalist, Clara Hughes. Told with honesty and passion, Open Heart, Open Mind is Clara’s personal journey through physical and mental pain to a life where love and understanding can thrive. This revelatory and inspiring story will touch the hearts of all Canadians as Clara uses her Olympic standing to share her struggles with mental health and the positive message of the power of forgiveness.

    In the first Stories of Canmore Book Club study for the 2021-2022 season, the Canmore Museum's Executive Officer and Senior Curator explores the history of the LGBTQ2S+ community in Canmore and southern Alberta through the lens of the book Our Past Matters: Stories of Gay Calgary by historian Kevin Allen and the advocacy and the lived experiences of the LGBTQ2S+ community in the Bow Valley since the late 1980s. This book study was hosted in conjunction with the inaugural Canmore Pride Festival held September 16 to 19, 2021.
